Volcano Planet: red sky, a volcano with rivers of lava, flying embers, dark rock cracked with lava, a lava pool, big blocks, the Ankylosaurus, Tommy and Cosmo.

On Volcano Planet, the sky is red. Rivers of lava flow down the volcano and embers fly through the air. The dark rock is cracked with lava, and the Ankylosaurus is there, with Tommy and Cosmo.

In real life

Real volcanoes

Underground, melted rock is called magma. When it comes out at the surface, it is called lava. [1]

Lava is very, very hot. At Kīlauea volcano, in Hawaii, it comes out at about 1,170 °C. [2]

Its color gives an idea of how hot it is: yellow is the hottest; orange, a little less; red, less still. [2]

As it cools, lava turns dark red, gray or black, and it hardens. [1]
